NUF – Nitrified Urine as Fertiliser: A Transdisciplinary Approach to Solution-Oriented Community Development
Overview
NUF is a project that was carried out at the World Food System Center at ETH Zurich. Using a transdisciplinary, solution-oriented research approach, this project quantified both the biophysical and social impacts of using processed human urine as a natural fertiliser for agricultural cropping systems.
n collaboration with the Sustainable Agroecosystems Group, NARP was co-investigator and participated in conducting an acceptance study to assess consumer attitudes towards food grown with recycled nutrients. This included conducting qualitative interviews to understand the policy implications, potential and limitations of this technology to improve sanitation and food insecurity currently facing our global community.
