SUPER-G – Developing SUstainable PERmanent Grassland systems and policies

Overview

The aim of the five-year project SUPER-G (Developing SUstainable PERmanent Grassland systems and policies) is to work with stakeholders to identify and refine permanent grassland systems that help optimise productivity and economic viability while promoting biodiversity and providing other ecosystem services.

Based on knowledge of socially, economically and ecologically viable permanent grassland systems from a network of farms and experimental plots in 14 countries in the Mediterranean, Atlantic, Continental, Alpine, Pannonian and Boreal regions, decision support tools for farmers and policy makers will be developed.

Our task in the SUPER-G project is:

  1. nvestigate appropriate methods to safeguard permanent pasture services by analysing farmers' attitudes towards integrative approaches and related incentive mechanisms in the Alpine region;
  2. In cooperation with policy makers and based on a prioritisation of issues and relevant information from farms, government and industry: the development of instruments for the policy promotion of sustainable management of permanent grassland (WP5) in the Alpine Space.
