COMIX – Challenges and Opportunities of Modular water Infrastructures for Greening the Swiss Economy

Overview

COMIX addresses the future challenges of modular technologies for infrastructure sectors from an interdisciplinary perspective. Using the example of urban water management, the obstacles as well as the opportunities for the development of modular infrastructure systems are identified.

The project pursues three overarching goals:

  1. To investigate the potential for Swiss companies to take an internationally leading role in modular water infrastructure, how this role could be taken or whether it should be taken at all.
  2. The assessment of the preparation possibilities of the involved actors for possible scenarios.
  3. The analysis of the potential of a pioneering role of Switzerland in the implementation of modular concepts.

NARP is responsible for the work package on alternative governance structures for the introduction and operation of modular system configurations and their ability to achieve economic, social and environmental goals.

The work package includes the following steps:

  • Analysis of existing alternative governance models in the water sector and other infrastructure sectors based on a comprehensive literature and document review
  • Overview of current organisational forms and regulatory mechanisms in the Swiss water sector and analysis of possible reform potentials
  • Detailed analysis of individual Swiss case studies (companies)
  • Comparative analysis of Swiss case studies with international cases
