ATREE – Analysing Trade-offs between sustainable Economy and Environmental objectives
Overview
ATREE focuses on identifying trade-offs in the forest sector and other economic sectors that arise from environmental regulation or other socio-economic changes. The project is based on the assumption that the transition of certain economic sectors towards more environmentally friendly production standards will intensify competition for scarce land. This in turn may cause particular pressure on the forest sector.
The project is based on the following steps:
- Data collection at the regional level in order to record the legal issues, to identify current conflicts of objectives with regard to a sustainable economy and to identify solutions that have already been implemented in this regard. Analysis of the acceptance of different policy combinations that appear feasible with regard to the trade-offs of a sustainable economic transition. The case study analysis is based on the identification and interviewing of actors in suitable regions.
-
Simulation of the land use consequences of the different policy options, which are subsequently discussed with stakeholders.
